Father and son take on the Sahara for charity

Tuesday 5th May 2009 By Mariam Ghaemi »

A FATHER and son team are gearing up to drive off-road across Morocco’s Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert to raise money for charity. Terry Fossett, 62, and Paul Fossett, 31, are preparing for a trip of a lifetime, which will see them drive a Land Rover more than 3,500 miles in about 21 days. "I just really hope we get a decent amount of money to give to the charity when we get back, but it’s very difficult at the moment, so fingers crossed" said Paul Fossett. The team are hoping to raise at least £1,400 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity in London, where Terry has been treated for foot problems. Paul, assistant manager at Motor Parts Direct in Chelmsford, said “I cannot wait. It’s going to be great. I’m really looking forward to it.” He added: “I just really hope I get a decent amount of money to give to the charity when I get back, but it’s very difficult at the moment, so fingers crossed.” Paul, of Skitts Hill, Braintree, said the trip all came about “off the cuff,” but he had always wanted to take his Land Rover off-road abroad. The father and son will be on the trip in October. They have so far raised £700 toward their target. Their sponsors include G&B Finch Haulage, Maldon Carbody and BTN Turbo.
